Trinket

Trinket – the little Welsh pony – was  never really around humans and very little is known about her past.  When she went into her first rescue and placed at her first foster home, she wouldn't let people near her.   Her fosters worked with her for about a year until she was able to be touched and pet.  She then moved to a second foster who continued to work with Trinket on ground work and was even able to get a bridle on her!   However, she was now with the rescue for over 2 years, with no luck being adopted.   A couple of people showed interest but once they found out her size and age they backed out.

With Pepper nearing the end of her journey, we knew we would need a companion for Mira.  When we heard Trinket's story, we knew it had to be her. Best of all, she has the same colouring as Mira, so its like her very own mini-me!

She is now 14 and boy does she have a lot of spunk.  Shy at first, but has she come out of her shell.  She absolutely LOVES people and cookies and her favourite activity is rolling in the mud.  Trinket is super curious and has to check out all her farm friends.

Dexter

Dexter comes to us as a rescue from wild horse culling situation and is currently under halter training and learning to trust humans.  After losing his mom very young, Dexter has attached himself to Calico who has been the best big brother.   Dexter loves to play and can often be seen teasing the boys and playing hide and seek with humans.

Wild horses form an important part of our province and country and the numbers are dwindling.  Various reasons are the cause of the declining population but one very concerning reason is the culling of wild horses so the land can be leased by the government to farmers for cattle.  Herds of the majestic animals are being wiped out all over the province at alarming rates.

Wild horses are not protected under federal wildlife laws and are considered livestock under provincial laws. This allows for horrific and needless culling such as the 17 wild horses that were shot west of Kamloops in 2023.  The senseless slaughters are happening all around the province with even more being sent to meat markets.

The average cost to save a horse from a wild cull or meat market is $500.  Donate and save a horse today!

Dolly

Dolly was previously a companion horse and family favourite pet.  Unfortunately, life can happen and Dolly and her best friend needed to be rehomed.  Her friend was able to go back to his original home but Dolly could not go too.  Dolly loves kids, larger horses and of course food!  Previously Dolly had a hard time fitting in with other ponies and minis but here she has found her herd with the minis and also enjoys the company of Maggie the Donkey.  She gets lots of visitors and is a favourite for kids to ride.  She has lost a lot of weight but still has more to go.

Minis and ponies easily become overweight and suffer from laminitis and insulin resistance. Feed should include low sugar hay, presoaked and any treats should be limited and have no sugar.

Other treatments may also be required such as metformin to help with the insulin resistance.

Other issues that are common include joint issues/dwarfism-related, dental concerns, Hyperlipemia (Fatty Blood Syndrome), Colic and Cushing's Disease (PPID)

Many minis and ponies end up in rescues due to the high cost of medical treatments.

Donate today to help with health care for Dolly and our other minis
